BIOGRAPHY

Born in Naples in 1982, Massimo Tomei has musically grown under the guide of his father, the professional musician Luciano Tomei, who has been his piano and composition teacher.  He took his musical diploma at the music conservatory S. Pietro a Majella in Naples with the highest marks and an honourable mention, resulting the best graduate of the conservatory for the school year 2004-2005. In 2009 under the guidance of  Prof. Loredana Marino, he graduated at the same conservatory, in "Musical disciplines - Piano specialization" (II level specialistic course), with the highest marks, honourable mention and the praise of the examination board. He attended international master courses held by the pianists Michele Campanella, Aldo Ciccolini, Laura de Fusco, Boris Petruschanskij, Paolo Spagnolo.   Currently he is under the guidance of maestro Vincenzo Balzani.  He won the first price in various national and internationa piano competitions such as “City of Bacoli Prize”, “NapoliNova”,“San Ferdinando di Puglia”, “City of Torre del Greco Prize”,“Domenico Scarlatti ACISAM” and, again, overall winner for all categories at the National Competition “Idelmo Poggioli” obtaining also the scholarship of the “Celi Prize”.  In 2005 he was again the overall winner at the “Young Pianists” contest of the Rotary Club International where, in the closing evening performance, he played the piano and orchestra concert K.271 by W.A. Mozart.  In the “Castrocaro Classic 2006” competition, restricted to the best graduates of year 2005, he won the “S.I.A.E. Prize” and the scholarship “Marco Allegri Prize”. He performed as a piano solist and with the orchestra in prestigious concert hall such as “Petrassi hall” at the Auditorium “Parco della musica” in Rome, “Scarlatti hall” at S.Pietra a Majella Conservatory in Naples, “Sannazaro Theater” in Naples, “Di Costanzo Mattiello Theater” in Pompei, “Puccini hall” at G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan and he performed for important music associations such as “ACISAM”, “Franco-Michele-Napolitano”, “Society Concert Milan”,  “Friends of the Festival of Nations” – Città di Castello, “NolaFestival from 2003 to 2010”, La Feltrinelli “Music-Space”, “Napolinova”, “Euterpe”, “Concerts at CFM” “Arte e... Musica”, Istituto Pianistico Superiore “F.B. Mendelssohn”. Since year 2000, he has been repeatedly invited by  the “Sir William Walton Foundation” to perform concerts in the auditorium of the wonderful “La Mortella Gardens” in Ischia. In May 2010, he performed in the first marathon “Liszt” in collaboration with the “National Academy of Santa Cecilia”, the “Chigiana Academy of Music” and the “Italian Liszt Society - chapter of the American Liszt Society”
